For Scuba Divers visiting Maldives we highly recommend staying at a resort with a reputable Dive Center.

Indeed, land based Diving in Maldives ensures more predictable Marine Life encounters. Additionally, if staying at a resort it is paired with higher safety standards as well. Click here and learn more about benefits for Divers staying at Resorts in the Maldives.

Yes! At all Sub Oceanic Dive Centers Nitrox is in Fact free of charge for all certified Nitrox Divers. Sub Oceanic’s Nitrox Mix of choice is EANx34.

First, please rest assured that most PADI certifications are recognized in the Maldives as well. As long as a certification states an ISO level, it fulfills all necessary legal requirements to participate in Scuba Diving.

Those ISO level certifications are equivalent to each other and further training can be continued from there.

Integrate all your Diving Certificates in one App

Additionally, SSI also offers the  option to integrate your PADI certification into the MySSI system. That also applies to certifications of any other scuba training agency. As a result you will be then no longer required to carry your old scuba diving certification cards with you anymore. All your relevant diving information is in one handy state of the art app.

Carry over your logged Dives into the App

Logged dives from your old logbook can be also carried over and verified. Our friendly team members are most happy to assist you with that.

The fact that not all Scuba Diving Centers offer SSI Scuba Diving Training, results from the higher quality standard requirements in place with SSI.

While other Scuba Diving Training agencies i.e. PADI allow their Scuba Diving Instructors to teach individually (without affiliation), SSI requires an additional layer of quality control. Besides the external quality control of SSI itself, each SSI approved Dive Center has also a highly qualified Dive Center Monitor assigned.

What does a SSI Dive Center Monitor do?

The Dive Center Monitor constantly monitors training quality of the affiliated SSI diving instructors and overall safety standards of the Dive Center. At the same time, SSI’s Scuba Diving Instructors are the highest trained Diving Instructors in the Diving Industry. In short, the level of safety and quality at SSI Diving Centers is unmatched!

Nitrox with 34% of Oxygen!

Firstly, it won’t restrict your Depth limit any further than 30 Meters. Secondly, this is also the depth limit set by the Maldivian Diving Regulations.

All things considered, the main benefit of Nitrox/EANx34 is the longest possible bottom time at a maximum depth of 30 Meters or shallower.

Yes! If parasailing is conducted in the correct way, it is one of the safest Water Sport activities. Critical points are the parasailing boat and the condition of the parasailing equipment used.

A safe parasailing boat should always be equipped with a start and landing platform and a winch which releases and reels in the rope connected to the parachute.

ATTENTION PLEASE: You should never ever use a boat for parasailing without those specifications!

What else to look for?

If ropes and parachutes are maintained well, the parasailing activity is conducted during good weather conditions by experienced parasailing staff following all safety considerations, it is one of the safest watersports activities of all!

Most probably not. It is common practice that the Dive Center at any resort in the Maldives has an exclusive contract with the Resort. This is for several good reasons:

Each Resort aims to provide the best possible experience for their guests. Accepting bookings from external visitors would result in higher guest traffic and fluctuation. That would ultimately impact the service quality.

Maintaining an unmatched safety at Maldives Resorts

A lower in-and-out traffic at the Resort also keeps the safety on at a Resort in place. i.e. violent crimes or theft in Maldivian Resorts are almost not existing.

Legal matters play a role as well. Resorts audit their on site Dive Centers. The Resort verifies that the Dive Centers comply with local laws and operates in safe way. It also ensures that the Dive Center operator holds a proper insurance and all required permissions to operate.

Last but not least, the Resort ensures a service quality of the Dive Center in line with other Resort’s quality standards. Everything is done to provide a worry free holiday to all guest.

Most probably the high Biodiversity is a result of the Seagrass occurrence all over the Atoll. As per our resident Marine Biologist the source of Lhaviyani Atoll’s outstandingly high biodiversity lays in its seagrass fields.

This thesis  is supported by the fact that Kuredu’s House Reef and Le Meridien’s House Reef are the two House Reefs with the highest Biodiversity in the Maldives. Currently a Biodiversity count is ongoing at Le Meridien’s House Reef.

Seagrass: the Ocean’s Dream Catcher!

Imagine each single seagrass leaf as velcro patch standing in the wind. To illustrate, this would be the best perspective to start from. Picture a never ending water flow within the Atoll, which “blows” tiny marine life like fish eggs, plankton and other small organisms through the water.  Later, once such marine life finds shelter or grip it will stay around that certain place.

Specifically, a seagrass leaf provides such a grip. Due to the dense growth of seagrass it additionally offers the required shelter. That makes seagrass fields the ideal Kindergarten in the Ocean. In brief, Seagrass fields are literally the source of Marine Life.

How does Sub Oceanic pass this message?

At Le Meridien Maldives we protect this source. Educating guest and the local population about the importance of seagrass is crucial in this process. Rather than only conducting one time visits at local schools, we also integrate our “seagrass ambassadors” in the local communities.

Our watersports team leader Nuttey is the best example. Over the years we have trained Nuttey as a SSI Scuba Diving Instructor. He has received several lessons about seagrass from our resident Marine Biologists.

Sharing experiences with the local community!

We believe that bringing his daily marine life encounters everyday to his home island Olhuvelifushi, has an impact. It starts with sharing his experiences with the family. Having his Kids passing on Daddies experiences at School, reaches people in a unique way.

We strive to continue with our integrated CSR  approach and to continue improving the awareness of seagrass in the Oceans. We also hope to make your holidays more meaningful with our focus supporting local communities when ever and where ever we can.
