Snake Eels are commonly mixed-up with Sea Snakes in Maldives. Especially the banded Snake Eel. Snake Eels are not harmful at all from any perfective.
Snake Eels either swim very close to the ground or rest inside the sandy bottom. Other differentiators are the shape of their face or their tail. Snake Eels try to imitate Sea Snakes as a mode of protection.

Sea Snakes do not live in the Maldives. While their pattern can be similar to Snake Eels, their behavior is very different. Sea Snakes usually swim through the open Water or rest on the ground.

Snake Sea Cucumbers are very common in the Maldives. On the first view there might be some similarities with Sea Snakes as well. However, with a bit of knowledge it is very easy to identify them correctly.
Most of the time, Snake Sea Cucumbers are feeding algae from the ground or from the water directly. Identifying their distinctive head with many feeding arms will be enough to separate them from Sea Snakes. Snake Sea Cucumbers are not harmful at all to humans.

Remember, Sea Snakes do not live in the Maldives. While their pattern can be in some way similar to Snake Sea Cucumbers, their behavior in comparison is very different.
While Sea Snakes swim through the open Ocean or resting on the ground, Snake Sea Cucumbers will be most of their life busy feeding. Snake Sea Cucumbers do also not posses any kind of swimming abilities. The best they can do is to roll through the water somehow…
