Experience Maldives highest Diving Safety Standards with the ENOS Diver Safety System
In 2024, Sub Oceanic Maldives has significantly increased their Safety Standards and introduced the ENOS Diver Safety System at their operations at Le Meridien Maldives and Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort. With the introduction of ENOS, both islands are the first land-based diving operations in the Maldives using ENOS in for all their dives.
What it ENOS Diver Safety System?
ENOS stands for Elektronisches Notruf- und Ortungs System. As one can recognize from the wording, ENOS origins from German Engineers. Translated to English ENOS stands for “Electronic Rescue and Location System”. Basically, ENOS is a diver safety system which is designed to help divers in distress by sending a signal of their location to a receiving unit. The diver has the choice to send the signal after surfacing or attaching the Signal Transmitter (Beacon) to their SMB and deploy it while still under water.
ENOS sends your GPS coordinates to Receiver Unit
The diver’s GPS coordinates from are generally sent from a beacon to a receiver on a boat or on land, allowing the to locate and assist the diver. The signal is also visible to external Rescue Units like Cost Guard or Army, however without triggering a rescue Alert. Hence, divers do not need to worry to trigger a “wrong” alert and creating unforeseeable cost. That is one of the main advantages compared to other similar set ups.

Quick Summary about ENOS Diver Safety System
- What it is ENOS:
ENOS is a GPS-supported system used primarily by divers, but also applicable for other water sports like windsurfing and sailing. - How it works:
- The system consists of a receiver on the dive boat and beacons worn by divers.
- The receiver uses GPS satellites to determine its position.
- When a diver needs help, they activate their beacon.
- The beacon transmits its GPS location to the receiver via a radio frequency.
- The receiver then determines the exact distance and direction between the boat and the diver.
- Benefits:
- Provides a quick and efficient rescue by directly signaling the diver’s location to the boat.
- Can help avoid expensive and time-consuming rescue operations.
- Easy to use, even in stressful situations, with a simple ergonomic switch.
- Usage:
ENOS beacons are typically attached to a diver’s BCD or SMB ensuring easy access in case of an emergency. - ENOS availability in Maldives:
Sub Oceanic Maldives is the only land based Diving Operator in the Maldives using the ENOS System at their Dive and Water Sports Centers at Le Meridien Maldives and Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon .
