The “Underwater Habitat” is accessible from the shore. This part of the House Reef at Hilton Maldives is less than a minute walk from our dive center while the second House Reef “Neru Faru”, requires a short 2 minute boat ride.
A WORLD FAMOUS HOUSE REEF AT HILTON MALDIVES
The worldwide famous House Reef Project at Hilton Maldives “Underwater Habitat by Sub Oceanic” is a unique Reef Project. News articles about this House Reef were widely published through international magazines. In Fact, the concept of this Reef is as simple as genius! Nevertheless, so far it is the first kind of its Art worldwide. More than 1500 Five Star Reviews on mydiveguide.com, elevate Hilton Maldives House Reef to one of the best Reefs for Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in the Maldives. Additionally the House Reef is one of the best Dive Sites in North Male Atoll.
THE GENIUS IDEA BEHIND UNDERWATER HABITAT
The idea is to enrich Hilton Maldives Lagoon by creating shelter from sustainable and direct accessible materials. The concept avoids creating additional CO2 through production or transport of materials. Marine Life settles automatically into the new House Reef. Providing shelter is enough. Drifting marine life, like fish larvae or any kind of eggs attach on the rough surfaces. As a result, Biodiversity increases naturally over time.
Broken corals, damaged through huge waves on the outer reef are collected and carefully placed in their new home. There those fragments are saved from being covered by sand. The “Underwater Habitat” project was initiated in October 2022. The amount of marine life attracted and grown organically until now is barely believable. Our resident Marine Biologist is constantly updating the Biodiversity count!
At Hilton Maldives House Reef so far anyone’s expectations were exceeded. At this point, several hundred different species have been recorded at the Reef. Classical species to be observed are clownfish, snappers, parrotfishes, stingrays, lobsters, black tip reef sharks, schools of jackfish, octopus as well as occasionally eagle rays or turtles. More details about this unique Dive Site can be found on mydiveguide.com.
