We are catching up with Toti, our unique Team Member and Maldives secret Fishing King at Hilton Maldives Amingiri Resort & Spa.
How did you first join Sub Oceanic, and what was your role in the beginning?
I got a call from a friend, so I applied for the job as diving instructor — and got it. I’ve been doing what I’m good at ever since.
What has kept you working with Sub Oceanic all these years?
I have a family and that’s what matters most to me. Sub Oceanic flexibility in leave planning allows me to make most of the time with my loved ones.
How has Sub Oceanic changed since you started?
From day one Sub Oceanic was adapting always very quick to demand. Even though I started initially as diving instructor, I am doing mainly fishing meanwhile
We all know you love fishing! What type of fishing do you enjoy most — and why?
Hand-line fishing, because that’s what most of our associates have challenges doing.
What advice would you give to someone trying fishing in the Maldives for the first time?
Catching the fish is part of the game. Don’t worry about it. Just go out to the sea and enjoy it.
What’s your favorite memory from fishing?
I went casting and popping with a friend from Sirru Fen Fushi, who’s from Germany. We didn’t catch any fish that day — but it’s still one of my favorite memories.
Is there a type of fish you’ve always wanted to catch but haven’t yet?
Yes — swordfish.
